Make a meaningful difference in the lives of our children.
Are you a caring and compassionate individual who enjoys supporting and mentoring youth? Vista Del Mar is currently seeking dedicated and trustworthy adult volunteers to commit to a one-on-one friendship with an at-risk teen between 12-18 years old. The Relationship Mentor program was created for our residential youth who have little to no contact with their parent or guardian. These teens are commonly placed in our care due to severe cases of abuse, neglect, and abandonment. After being accepted into the program, Mentors provide guidance to their Mentee, and support positive character, social and emotional development. We are in great need of Mentors who represent the various demographics of the youth we serve, including diversity in gender, age, sexual orientation, ethnic, racial, religious and cultural backgrounds. To qualify for this program, Mentors must pass an interview process, criminal background check, have a clean driving record, and are able to commit to a minimum of 8 weekend hours a month for one year. We also ask that mentors have some experience with higher education, while individuals with a BA degree and/or experience working with at-risk youth are highly preferred. Must be 21 years of age or older.
Vista Del Mar utilizes adult volunteers to assist youth with reaching their academic goals. Applicants must commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week, for 3-6 months and possess independent work habits. Must be 21 years of age or older.
Vista Del Mar seeks volunteers with special skills or training. These volunteer positions are used to support a specific need for a program. Examples of these skills include: Recreation/Sports, Yoga, therapeutic art, health/wellness, cooking and other adjunctive therapies. Most of these have been coordinated through the rehab department and support the residential program. Must be 21 years of age or older.
Interested in becoming a Vista Volunteer?
Please begin the process by contacting Brenda Thompson. A brief follow up call will determine area of interest based on need, and an interview will be set-up with Vista’s Mentor/Volunteer Coordinator to determine if there is an appropriate match. It is vitally important that all prospective volunteers are placed in the appropriate opportunity. Upon completion of a successful interview process, each volunteer will attend an information session, complete the application below, and pass a background check and TB test.
All Information Sessions will take place at the Vista Del Mar Campus in the Administration Building. Specific directions will be emailed upon confirmation of attendance at one of these sessions.
