Drew & Ed
Our names are Ed and Drew, and we are very grateful for the opportunity to tell you more about us and our journey together. We met over 5 years ago in sunny San Diego, California where we quickly bonded over our large families, love for the outdoors, and most importantly, our shared goal of being fathers someday. We’re so excited at the thought of becoming parents together and can’t wait to provide a child with all the love, laughter, stability, and joy we have to give. From the bottom of our hearts, we truly admire your strength and courage in this process and hope that by getting to know us, you feel supported in making the best choice for you and your child.
About Drew:
Drew grew up in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon with 4 sisters and 1 brother. Though his childhood home was small for a family of 8, the love from his parents and the camaraderie amongst his siblings was plentiful. For Drew, relocating to the beaches of Southern California, away from the chilly and gray winters of Oregon was a welcome change.
Drew graduated from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) in 2008 and quickly began a career in finance after returning home to Portland. While working in Portland, he also served as a volunteer Firefighter-EMT for a rural fire department outside of Portland where he found personal fulfillment in serving the community and working alongside fellow Firefighters. In 2017, he decided it was time to work towards his goal to relocate to Southern California. After a brief job search, he received an offer in San Diego and headed south to begin his new adventure. Drew continued to excel in his work in finance and transitioned to a role as a Marketing Director for a large financial firm in 2022 which has proven to be very rewarding for him.
Beyond just furthering his career, the move to San Diego helped him rediscover his passion for year-round running, hiking, and days at the beach. The added bonus was meeting the love of his life, Ed, shortly after his move. For those reasons and so many more, San Diego is truly now home for him.
About Ed:
Family is extremely important to Ed as he is very close to his parents and siblings. He comes from a large family himself and has been dreaming of fatherhood as long as he can remember. With his large family, there is no shortage of birthday parties, graduations, celebrations, and holiday gatherings.
As an Eagle Scout, Ed spent many summers at camp enjoying the great outdoors and developing his leadership skills. He excelled in school and has always enjoyed math & science. He graduated from the California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a focus on Construction Management and obtained a Minor in Business Administration as well. He has built his career in the construction management field moving up the ranks to a director level role where he leads a large team as they build significant projects on a college campus in San Diego.
Believing that a healthy lifestyle is a huge factor to balance and happiness, Ed enjoys working out at his neighborhood gym, hiking, taking yoga classes, and taking the beloved pup, Whiskey, on long walks.
About Ed from Drew:
Ed is the most nurturing and loyal person I’ve ever had the chance to meet. I’ve always admired how deeply and naturally he connects with anyone that crosses his path. Ed is steady, reliable, and can be counted on by his friends, family, (and me) no matter what. There is nobody else I could imagine sharing this journey with, and one of my greatest joys in life will be watching him pour his heart and soul into being a Dad. Quite simply, he was born to be a parent, and I have no doubt that he will devote all of his energy to protecting, caring for, and loving our future child.
About Drew from Ed:
Every day, Drew shows up with a heart full of warmth and an unwavering commitment to those he loves. Whether it’s through small gestures (like surprising me with my favorite snack), or through big acts of kindness, he always makes me and others feel supported and cared for. Throughout our relationship I’ve had a front row seat to how patient and empathetic Drew is, and I know he is going to make an amazing and loving Dad.
Our Home & Community:
We consider ourselves fortunate to call sunny San Diego home. We live in a quiet community called La Mesa, just a few miles inland from the beach. Our home is a three-bedroom house with a large yard and outdoor area that is perfect for gathering with family and friends. Within a few blocks from our home are several parks, schools, and walking trails that we visit with our dog often and hope to enjoy with our future child too. Our home is located on a safe, quiet street with other young families and retired couples. Each year we take pride in decorating our home with Christmas lights and Halloween decorations that make the holidays feel magical.
Occupations:
Drew works as a Marketing Director for a large financial firm, developing marketing campaigns that help others save more for their retirement years. Drew has worked in financial services for about 16 years. Ed works as a Program Director for a construction firm in the local San Diego area. Drew works from home full time which we hope will help us manage parenting duties a bit easier in the future. Ed works about 30 minutes from our home but also has the flexibility of working from home occasionally.
Parenting:
In our approach to parenting, we’ll prioritize creating a loving, stable environment filled with encouragement, respect, and open communication. We believe in leading with patience and compassion, encouraging their unique strengths, and supporting their growth and curiosity about the world around us. Surrounding our child with our loving network of family and friends will also be very important to us as we strive to raise someone who is well-rounded, empathetic, and a light to those around them. Celebrating holidays, hosting special gatherings, and traveling together as a family are some of the moments and memories we look forward to creating the most once our parenting journey begins.
In closing:
Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know us. Starting a family together is something we are extremely excited for, and we are grateful for your consideration. Our commitment as adoptive parents is to always provide a safe and secure home; full of love, understanding, patience, affection, adventure, and memorable moments. This is the promise we make to you with our whole hearts and being.
