ARCHITECTURE

Designed by AUX Architecture to support both the campus and the community, the building is home to Vista Del Mar’s innovative therapeutic performing arts program and is designed as a multi-use performing arts facility. In December 2020, Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center received a 2020 AIA (American Institute of Architects) Design Award and was named People’s Choice winner. The project is an adaptive reuse of an existing building that is augmented by the addition of new square footage for accessory spaces. These include production support areas, rehearsal spaces, stage craft, dressing, and classroom spaces possible. The translucent façade system of 100 percent recyclable polycarbonate allows for uniform natural light to pour into all accessory spaces while keeping the building highly insulated and shielded from UV rays. By wrapping the existing theatre with a translucent addition, the building is evolved into a glowing new center for the campus.

ABOUT GLORYA KAUFMAN

From the time she was a child, Glorya Kaufman loved dance. Throughout her life as a visionary philanthropist, she has shared her passion for dance and the power of all the arts. Today, thanks to her extraordinary generosity, we have built a performance arts center on the campus of Vista Del Mar, a place where the children and teens we serve can all have that feeling she loved- and so much more.
