Join the Movement & Give Back
#GI
INGTUESDAY 2021 is on November 30th!
Help us ensure that every Vista child and family is remembered this Holiday Season
Vista is joining #GivingTuesday once again, a global day of giving that inspires people to improve their communities by giving back in impactful ways.
Children who have experienced a traumatic event are more likely to experience difficulty in the form of behavioral challenges and academic performance throughout the school day. When a student is having a difficult time in the classroom, we provide a space to process their emotions alongside a supportive Behavioral Staff Member. These spaces, referred to as Calming Down Rooms (or Sensory Unwinding Now Rooms), help a student process their experiences with the help of a trusted staff member and then return to the classroom with a mindset ready to learn.
Breyonna’s story is a powerful journey that reinforces our mission to provide the highest level of support and care for Vista students recovering from traumatic events.
This #GivingTuesday the goal is to renovate and optimize these rooms so that they become bright, cheery, and functional spaces that will fully support a student’s trauma recovery. Our current rooms are functional but they could use a major update and renovation to transform them into the ultimate therapeutic space.
Our educators and school administrators compiled a list of sensory process tools and design elements that would greatly improve the therapeutic benefit these rooms currently provide.
